Getting Married?

Before getting married in Alberta, you must obtain a Marriage Licence from an Alberta Registries Office. A Marriage Licence gives you the legal right to be married within three months from the date the licence was issued. You will need to present the Marriage Licence to the marriage officiant before the service is performed.

Birth Certificate

All Alberta births must be registered. It is the responsibility of the mother, or if the parents are married, either parent to complete a Registration of Birth form at the time of birth. Approximately 3 weeks after the birth, a certificate may be ordered through our office.

Death Certificate

It is the responsibility of the spouse or next of kin to complete a Registration of Death form. This form is usually completed at the funeral home when the funeral arrangements are being made. The funeral home will send the original documents to Vital Statistics. Once Vital Statistics has entered the information into their system, a death certificate may be ordered through our office.
